ahs-logo-smallThe Auburn High school baseball team had no problems winning game oneĀ and game two in a three game set against area rival Smiths Station to become 7A area 4 champions. Auburn won two out of three against Central back on April 8th and 9th, then mercy ruled Smiths Station twice on Wednesday and Thursday to secure a spot in the AHSAA 7A baseball playoffs.

Auburn won game one Wednesday by a 12-1 final at home (game one recap), then won the series by winning game two 11-1. The Tigers got the scoring started early, as an RBI double by Brooks Fuller and a sacrifice fly by Clay Golson gave Auburn an early 2-0 lead after just one inning. In the top of the second, Rowdy Jordan hit a two run homer to right field to push Auburn’s lead to 4-0. Later in the second Brooks Fuller recorded another RBI double to bring in Garrett Morris, then Rollins Cleveland brought in two more runs on a two out double making the lead 7-0 after two innings. The Tigers tacked on another run in the top of the third on a Rowdy Jordan RBI single to make the score 8-0 in favor of the Tigers. In the top of the fifth, Auburn scored three more runs thanks to a Rowdy Jordan RBI ground out, followed by RBI singles by Brooks Fuller and Teddy Benda. Smiths Station scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, but still fell because of the ten run through five innings mercy rule.

Brooks Fuller earned the win for pitching all five innings allowing no earned runs on just two hits and recorded four strikeouts. Rowdy Jordan finished the game two for four with four RBI’s and a run scored, while Brooks Fuller went three for four at the plate with three RBI’s.

The Tigers finished the season with an impressive 21-9 record and an area title. The Tigers will host in the first round of the playoffs against the area 1 runner-up (Mary Mongomery or Alma Bryant). The game and every playoff game will be broadcast on ESPN 106.7, and streamed online at espnau.com, the ESPN 106.7 app, and on the ESPN 106.7 Facebook page.
