Auburn High Travels to Face Area Foe Central on Thursday Afternoon

Auburn High will be traveling to Phenix City this afternoon to face Central in a doubleheader in area play. On Wednesday afternoon, Auburn came out victorious over the Red Devils by a 2-1 final score to take the 1-0 advantage in the three game set. Auburn Senior Drew Jennings pitched a complete game on Wednesday, giving up just three hits, one run, and punching out five. In a tie game with two outs in the fourth, Senior Clayton Phillips brought home the go-ahead run from third base which ultimately ended up being the difference in the 2-1 victory.

If the Tigers are able to take game two in Phenix City, it will require just one win against the other area rival Smiths Station to guarantee a spot in the 2018 AHSAA 7A Playoffs. After game two, they will go into a tiebreaker game to help settle any ties that may come up in area play to decide playoff seeding. Scott Bagwell and Riley Hubbard will have coverage of the doubleheader live from Phenix City, Alabama beginning at 4:30. Both games will also be streaming online at espnau.com and on the ESPN 106.7 app.
