Auburn High Falls to Central-Phenix City 34-28

The Auburn High football team kept it close with the number one team in the state of Alabama, but fell to the Central Red Devils 34-28 on Friday night. Central took an early 7-0 lead over the Tigers in the first, but Jay Walker evened the score with a 36 yard touchdown later in the first. Auburn senior Brooks Fuller then connected with JaMarcus Knight to give the Tigers a 14-7 lead. The first quarter ended with a 5 yard run by Central’s A’montae Spivey to once again tie the game at 14. With time expiring in the second quarter, Trey Elston caught a 5 yard touchdown from Fuller to give the Tigers a 21-14 lead at the half.

 

But the number one team in the state had a huge third quarter, especially A’montae Spivey. Spivey had a 43 yard touchdown run followed by a 79 yard touchdown run to put the Red Devils back in front 28-21. Spivey struck again in the fourth with a 22 yard rushing touchdown to make it 34-21. Auburn scored to make it 34-28 and recovered an onside kick to give the Tigers offence a chance, but they were unable to score and lost by a 34-28 final.

 

Auburn quarterback Brooks Fuller finished the game 16 for 34 passing and 186 yards while Auburn running back Jay Walker had 24 rushes for 169 yards and a touchdown. JaMarcus Knight was the Tigers leading receiver with 6 receptions for 89 yards. For Central, quarterback Peter Parrish went 11 for 17 passing and 96 yards and A’montae Spivey had 10 rushes for 197 yards and four touchdowns.
