With college baseball’s opening day rapidly approaching, Auburn University Baseball Head Coach Butch Thomson joined Bill and Bryan Matthews on Monday to discuss Auburn’s upcoming season, which begins this Friday at 2:00 against George Washington.
After claiming both a spot in the 7A Area 4 Title game and home court advantage, Auburn High wasn’t able to pull out a victory for the 7A Area 4 Title Game against Central, as they fell by a final score of 57-43. Fortunately for the Tigers, the loss does not put them out of the running for a state title. By winning their area in the regular season, they automatically clinched a berth at the Regional championship in Montgomery.
Both the boys an girls are scheduled to play THIS THURSDAY in Montgomery, with the girls game tipping at 9:00 against Jefferson Davis High followed by the boys game against familiar foe Robert E. Lee High at 1:30. These games will both be broadcast by Scott Bagwell on ESPN 106.7, and if you’re away from a radio at work, the games will also be streaming online at espnau.com and on the free ESPN 106.7 app.
ESPN 106.7 brought the party to Tonya Redd’s place on Big Game Sunday.
Tonya and her friends watched the action on a huge 60-inch TV from Rix Audio, Video & Appliance on Pepperell Parkway in Opelika and munched down on famous New York style pizza from Johnny Brusco’s on East University Drive in Auburn and crispy baked wings from Island Wing Company in downtown Auburn!
The Drive will be on location TODAY at Piccolo – inside The Hotel at Auburn University – with a special recap of National Signing Day.

The Auburn High School Tigers were able to defeat Benjamin Russell on senior night on Tuesday. Auburn’s starting five was all seniors on their last regular season home game, as Auburn won by a final score of 45-33.
Senior forward Garrison Brooks led the team offensively, as he put up 15 points and 8 rebounds. Junior Christian Brandt also had a nice night, as he recorded 10 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
The win brings AHS’s record to an impressive 19-8. The final regular season game for the Tigers will be February 3rd at arch-rival Opelika. After that, Auburn will play in the 7A area 4 championship game on February 13th in Auburn followed by the regional championship in Montgomery (seed is not yet determined).
