AHS finishes 3-1 at the Steel City Classic

After falling in the first round of the Steel City Classic to Ramsay 56-54, Auburn High School bounced back to beat both Parker (58-46) and Vestavia Hills (69-65) to leave Birmingham with a 12-3 overall record. In the win over Vestavia Hills, Garrison Brooks recorded 23 points and 2 assists. Another tournament is up next for the Tigers, as they will head to the Lake City Classic in Atlanta with games beginning on Wednesday and ending on Friday. (Dec. 28-30).

Auburn High Beats Parker in Steel City Classic 58-46

After a buzzer beater three by Christian Brandt rimmed out in the first round led to a heartbreaking loss to Ramsay in the first round, the Tigers were placed in the loser’s bracket of the Steel City Classic in Birmingham against Parker High. The scoring was led by a name that hasn’t been mentioned much so far this year, Justin Brooks, who drained 16 points and shot 71% from the field. Garrison Brooks was very impressive in the game as well, as he put up 14 points, 7 assists, 3 blocks, and pulled down 10 rebounds. The Brooks’ efforts helped Auburn pull off a 58-46 win.

Auburn will now go on to face Vestavia tomorrow at 11:00. The Steel City Classic Championship game between Huffman and Mountain Brook will also be tomorrow at 2:30. The full updated bracket is below:

The win pushes Auburn’s record to an impressive 11-3. Also some exciting news for the team yesterday, as seniors Antione Pitts and Lawrence Collins both received offers to play basketball at Andrew College.

Auburn High Falls in First Round in Steel City Classic to Ramsay 56-54

The Auburn High School Tigers weren’t able to start off the Steel City Classic in Birmingham the way they had hoped, dropping their first round matchup to Ramsay, 56-54. Christian Brandt led the Tigers in scoring, as he racked up 21 points and 7 rebounds. Garrison Brooks kept up his consistent play, recording 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. As a team, Auburn High shot 43% from the field and stole the ball 6 times.

This loss isn’t the end for the Tigers, as they  face Parker in the losers side of the bracket at 12:00 today. The updated bracket for the Steel City Classic is below:

The Auburn High School girls were able to come away with a win over the always competitive Lee High School 56-46 on Tuesday night.

AHS Basketball Dominates over Dadeville 85-29

The Auburn High basketball team continues their impressive play in a 85-29 blowout win on the road. The Tigers set the tone early, scoring 29 points in the first quarter, while only allowing Dadeville 8, followed by just 2 points in the second quarter. Preston Cook kept up his great play, recording 15 points a game after scoring 23 points last week against Central. Cook also went 3 for 3 from behind the three-point line. Christian Brandt also had a good night, scoring 11 points and racking up  5 assists and 2 steals. Garrison Brooks keeps up his dominance in the paint, pulling down 10 rebounds and also scored 15 points.

The next game for Auburn High will be at Loachapoka on Friday (12/16).
